One of the last letters we did for our Alphabet Summer was M. We did a "Muffin and Movie Day". We started the morning out by making raspberry muffins. The kids took turns putting the muffin cups in the pan and then stirring the batter. When the muffins were done, we picked out movies that we wanted to watch while we enjoyed the delicious muffins. The kids not only loved helping make the muffins, but loved having a day that they got to watch movies pretty much all day. Later in the week we also took them to McDonald's (their favorite place to eat) to get a Happy Meal and play in the playground area. They were so excited and had a blast!
Next is one of our new favorite summer indulgences. This summer we discovered Hawaiian Ice. We drove passed the place several times a day to get to and from our house and never thought to stop. One day we decided to try it out and our idea of a snow cone was changed for forever. The kids loved getting either a blue or purple one, not because of the flavor, but because it would turn their whole mouth that color. They thought that was the coolest thing ever!

Right before school started, we had the unfortunate opportunity to take one of our kids in for their first and (hopefully last) stitches. We were cruising the mall and were in Sears checking some things out. I had Emily in the stroller with me and Blair was trying to keep up with Bryce (who had had enough of the stroller). Emily decided that she wanted to get out of the stroller and be with daddy. So I looked around and saw Blair a couple of feet away and thought that she could make it to him okay without me taking her over there. Well, I was wrong. Just as I had thought that she had made it to Blair okay, we heard a scream of horror. Both of us ran over to where the scream came from and there was Emily sitting at the bottom of the down escalator holding her hand which was covered in blood. Yes, I am a bad parent for not walking her over to Blair! To make a long story short, she never got to Blair and apparently got distracted by the escalator...Blair thought I had her and I thought he had her...Emily decided to go up the down escalator and therefore sliced her finger trying to do so. Blair picked her up and ran her to the nearest bathroom to wash and clean it. The bleeding slowed quite a bit, so we didn't know if she would be okay with just a band aid or if we needed to take her to the doctors to get it checked out. So after getting some opinions from some wonderful family members we took her to the doctors office to get it looked at. The doctor gave us the option of stitches or just gluing it, then after looking at it again, said that stitches would probably be the way to go. So, Emily was strapped down in the papoose thing and some numbing gel was put on her finger. I sat on one side of her and grandma sat on the other side and daddy had to sit in the doorway, not only for fear of passing out (which I was feeling the same way and thus one of the reasons grandma came with us to help) and Emily didn't want him around. We joked that she already has the right attitude for when she is in labor (get away from me!!!;D). I talked with and sang to Emily (which calmed her down) while the doctor was doing the stitches. Since it was around 8:00 p.m. and Emily hadn't had a nap that day, she fell asleep right on the table while the doctor finished putting in the last two stitches. Emily did quite well considering what was going on and thank heavens for modern medicine so she couldn't feel the stitches being put in. Four stitches, six stickers from the doctor, and a snow cone later, she was a very happy girl again. :) She was able to get the stitches out a week later (and received six more stickers from the doctor :))and it has healed really well. And yes, we feel very lucky and very blessed that she only had a cut and hadn't lost her finger! :)

Just got stitches.
Bryce is now in his second year of preschool. We can't believe how much he has grown and learned in the last year. He was SO excited to go back and see his teacher and his friends. When I asked him what he wanted to wear for his first day of school, he picked out his shirt and said, "I think my teacher will really like this one. She will think it is so cool!". Our little man is growing up! He asks me everyday what day it is to see if it is a school day and when it isn't, he is so disappointed. We're so glad that he loves to go and that he has such a wonderful teacher!
During the first week in August, Blair had the opportunity to take a fishing trip to Alaska (see a previous post). He brought home a lot of yummy halibut and salmon. We didn't really have a way to cook the fish since we didn't have a BBQ and we didn't really want our house to smell like fish either. But thanks to wonderful parents, who do so much for all of us, we were given a brand new BBQ so that we could cook our fish. So on Labor Day, we tried out our new BBQ and tried some Alaskan Salmon and can we just say YUM!!! It was to die for! And you know it is really good when our kids, who are pretty picky eaters, ate more fish than Blair and I did. (Although Emily thought it was chicken...or at least that's what she was calling it! ;D) It was definitely "Mmm, Mmm, Good!".
About a month ago, we had a power outage in our area. We had a short one in the evening (right when we were cooking dinner of course!) and then again right when we were getting the kids ready for bed. However, the second one lasted for at least an hour or so. The kids were so hyped up and thought it was so cool that we couldn't "turn on the lights" and from being able to use their Halloween lanterns that Grandma K. had just gotten for them. We knew they wouldn't stay in their beds and thought it would be fun to have sort of a camp out in our room. Well, just as the kids finally settled down...the power came back on...and they got hyped up again. Needless to say, the kids had a blast and mommy and daddy were worn out!
Every week Blair and I have a date night (once again thanks to wonderful parents who are willing to watch our kids!) which we started 7 1/2 years ago in determination that we would still be able to spend some time together without the kids when they came into our lives. Now that we have two little ones, we have noticed how hard it is to give them both the individual attention they need. So, to fix that problem, we have decided to spend one of our date nights with just Bryce and one of our date nights with just Emily. We started doing this last month and they have both absolutely loved it! We let the kids pick where they want to go eat and what activity they want to do. Bryce picked McDonald's (of course) and then he wanted to go bowling. We all had a blast and Bryce never stopped smiling the whole night! Unfortunately, I forgot to bring the camera. :( So, we'll just have to go bowling again, which I'm sure Bryce won't mind! When it was Emily's turn, she wanted to feed the ducks.
Well, sorry for the novel, but there was a lot to catch up on...and this is pretty much our "journal/scrapbook" for right now. ;D
