This Place is a Zoo!

A couple of weeks ago we went to the zoo with a couple of Blair's cousins and their kids and Grandma and Grandpa K. It was great to see these cousins that we don't see very often and catch up on each others lives.

The kids had a blast and loved all the animals. We ended up staying the WHOLE day. However, it was because we lost Grandpa K., who also had Emily with him, and spent quite a while trying to find them. If you know my dad, you know that he loves to read ALL (and I mean ALL) of the information signs that talk about the exhibit everywhere we go, so somewhere going from one place to the next, we lost him. So it ended up being quite a long day.

When we finally found them, they had already seen all of the animals. I was kind of sad because this time Emily was old enough to actually enjoy seeing the animals and I wasn't there to see her reactions (I'm kind of sentimental that way). Grandpa said that the giraffes, monkeys, and birds were her favorites. Poor Bryce didn't get to see all of the animals until after we had found grandpa and Emily. He kept telling us he wanted to see more animals, so he was pretty excited when we finally found them.

When we went into the cat exhibit the tiger was pacing back and forth clear at the back of the cage. Fortunately there was a path that went up behind there, so we got to see the tiger really close up! It was so neat! Bryce loved it!

The kids' favorite part aside from seeing all the animals was riding the carousel. It was quite a long ride so it was worth the couple of dollars it cost to ride it.

They also had a promotional thing going on for Kleenex called "Catch the Bug". They had a glass box that had air blowing and you had to catch as many Kleenex Bugs in the net as you could. It was fun to watch Bryce do that one - Emily didn't want anything to do with it. Then they had a "Whack - A - Bug" (same concept as "Whack - A - Mole") and an arcade game that "sneezed" on you if you lost. Of course Bryce had to do them all!

When it was time to go, grandma and grandpa spoiled the kids by letting them go in the gift shop and buy whatever they wanted. Bryce found a ton of things he wanted, but Emily was satisfied with her pin for her pin collection (plus she was pretty worn out), and grandma couldn't bear to leave without getting Emily something else, so she picked out something for her.

We were all pretty hungry by the time we left so grandma and grandpa treated us to dinner and a late night ice cream at Coldstone's (it was 9:00 when we left to get the ice cream). It was a very long day, but it was a lot of fun. (And needless to say, we all slept VERY well that night!)

FUN STUFF! That sounds like a pretty fun time at the zoo. I almost forgot how bad it stinks there! :) I am glad that you found Emily even if she was with Grandpa. What cousins did you go with?

Yeah, I forgot about the horrid smell too - at least it wasn't a smoltering hot day! Kellie emailed me to see if we wanted to go and then Isaac and Becky were there too. It was great to see them.
